Guy James – Director

Guy James is a freelance countertenor, based in Cambridge. A founding member of The Gesualdo Six, Guy tours internationally and records and broadcasts regularly with the ensemble, and directs their Josquin’s Legacy project. He works regularly as a soloist and with a wide selection of choirs and ensembles including Polyphony, The London Choral Sinfonia and the Italian ensemble Odhecaton. He is a founding member of the Future Leaders Group of the Cathedral Music Trust and a Trustee of Cambridge-based choir De Profundis.

Guy has a passion for the music of the Italian courts of the renaissance, the English Choral Tradition and the modern classical music of the Baltic States, especially that of Arvo Pärt.

As a director, Guy has worked on Spanish renaissance polyphony with Sansara and also directed Bach Cantatas in Trinity College, Cambridge.
