Guy James is a freelance countertenor, based in Hertfordshire. A founding member of The Gesualdo Six, Guy tours internationally and records and broadcasts regularly with the ensemble, and directs their Josquin’s Legacy and Queen of Hearts projects. He works regularly as a soloist and with a wide selection of choirs and ensembles including Polyphony, The London Choral Sinfonia and the Italian ensemble Odhecaton. He is a founding member of the Future Leaders Group of the Cathedral Music Trust where he is also a committee member and is a Trustee of Cambridge-based choir De Profundis.
Guy has a passion for the music of the Italian courts of the renaissance, the English Choral Tradition and the modern classical music of the Baltic States, especially that of Arvo Pärt.
As a conductor, Guy has worked with Epiphoni Consort, conducts regularly in workshops with The Gesualdo Six, has performed Spanish renaissance polyphony with Sansara, and directed Bach Cantatas in Trinity College, Cambridge.
